I'm a recent transplant to the San Francisco Bay Area working in the media production industries, including both music and the web. After a long stint of music and multimedia production in Minneapolis, I moved to San Francisco in 2009 to establish a base for my entrepreneurial activities and because I love the city. I'm an avid biker and proponent of car-free living.
Politically I tend to resonate as a Left Libertarian. For example, at least on philosophical terms, I'm a Libertarian Socialist.
As designer I have found much of my inspiration in the open source software community that has brought us Firefox and Ubuntu Linux. Open source software is an amazing exemplification of a culturally motivated, egalitarian business ecosystem and I think the world has a lot to learn from its example.
I've been very active on the Internet for some time. I even found my wife through following each others' blogs. We were married in 2007 :)
"If there is anything that the nonconformist hates more than a conformist, it's another nonconformist who doesn't conform to the prevailing standards of nonconformity."
- Bill Vaughan
"The idealist has another measure... he does not respect government, except as far as it reiterates the law of his mind; nor the church, nor charities, nor arts, for themselves; but hears, as at a vast distance, what they say, as if his consciousness would speak to him through a pantomimic scene. His thought – that is the Universe."
- Ralph Waldo Emerson, The Transcendentalist
I've been blogging online in one form or another since 2000 and have several presences on various social networks.
I have discontinued my Facebook, MySpace and Flickr profiles due to data ownership concerns and to encourage more openness in the social "cloud".
